On Line Leak Sealing

How it came about

The principles and techniques use for repairing under pressure leaks began in the late twenties. However, rapid development by specialist contractors did not start until 1967, when the need to repair both higher pressure and temperature leaks arose in many industries which were operating their plants on a continuous basis. Today, well-trained specialists can seal almost all pressurised piping systems and equipment operating at up to 300 BAR and 1,500F

On-line repairs fall into the category of either permanent or temporary, depending upon the individual repair. For instance, the valve gland injection technique is generally considered to be a permanent repair, as it merely refills and replaces the packing seal that the valve had as it’s original equipment. However, the flange clamp or pipe enclosure, is generally considered to be a temporary repair and at the first shutdown after fitting should, in most cases, be replaced.

Before embarking on an on-line repair, a careful job assessment is necessary to assess the basic mechanical integrity of the equipment and system to be worked on. This is to ensure that on-line repairs are a perfectly safe solution to the problem. The skilled technician will always have the leak under complete control, therefore maintaining the safest and best working environment for performing, what may have seemed to the untrained eye, an impossible task.

Seal Team History

Where We Came From

Andy Mills and Ken Black worked for an online Leak Sealing Company called Colt Engineering Services for a number of years.

Andy – a skilled welder and Ken a skilled turner worked as a two man team, sealing online leaks around the country for Colt. However in 2005 the owner retired and closed the Company. As Colt closed so quickly and without contacting their customers, Andy said “We can do this” and asked Ken to join him as a business partner. Within 10 days Seal Team Systems Ltd was up and running and we made contact and spoke with all of Colts customer base and they all agreed to continue using our services bar one.
However after perseverance this customer also came on board when alternative suppliers failed to deliver.

We still work in teams of two, with a skilled welder and a skilled turner.
As we provide an emergency call out service, we like to make sure we can provide the best service and product’s possible for our customers. We make our own compounds and manufacture our own clamps and enclosures.
eg. If its Saturday morning and we are making an enclosure and the welding unit “breaks down” we have 3 spare units. If a lathe has a fault - we have a spare lathe or a Vertical borer or a horizontal borer so we can continue to manufacture the necessary parts

We seal steam and chemical leaks all around the UK.

Maybe we are a little old fashioned but we still believe in a personal service – you can always talk to Andy or Ken whenever you call 24/7.
